First Anglo-Afghan War
This was the first war in Afghanistan. This war started in 1839 and ended in 1942. The British armies invaded and assassinated King Shah Shuja in Kabul. During the war British and Indian troops were annihilated. -
Second Anglo-Afghan War
This war was fought between the United Kingdom and the Emirate of Afghanistan. It lasted for two years, starting in 1878 and ending in 1880. A treaty gave Britain control of Afghanistan foreign affairs. -
Independence
Being influenced by British, Emir Amanullah Khan declares independence after its 3rd and final Anlgo-Afghan war. Lenin encourage Amanullah to gather enslaved Muslims around the world for independence. -
Fled
Emir Amanullah Khan introduces social reform which led to riots, protest, or violence. After the social disorder Amanullah caused he fled the country. -
New King
Zahir Khan was made king after the assassination of his father. The power still remained in the hand's of his father, King Nadir's brothers. -
Recognition
The United States involvement in the country of Afghanistan began in 1934. The United States formally recognized Afghanistan. It took years of negotiations and continuous requests from Afghanistan. -
General Mohammed Daoud Khan
General Mohammed Daoud Khan became prime minister of Afghanistan. Afghanistan turned to Soviet Union for economic and military assistance. -
Allies
Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev agreed to help Afghanistan. The Soviet Union and Afghanistan became allies. The countries went to war together. -
Invasion in Afghanistan
The Soviet Red Army invaded Afghanistan. The Soviet-Afghan war lasted over nine years, from December 1979 to February 1989. "A lost alliance, a enemy gained." -
Taliban
The Afghan Civil War fought between 1996-2001. In 1996 the Taliban captured the Afghan capital Kabul and established the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. They banned women from working and required to be fully veiled.
