Affecting Computing Timeline

  • Moore's Law

    Moore's Law
Gordon Moore created a sort of broad law that stated that our technological advancements in terms of transistors in computer circuits will double every 2 years. This has been a fundamental principle in technological advancement and has stayed fairly true to this day.
  • Picard's Affective Computing Research

    Picard's Affective Computing Research
Picard's research on affective computing was brought to the world. Her research paved the way for many in the area of computer science in terms of emotion. She more or less invented the field of emotion studies in terms of technological advancements.
  • Clippy's Short Life

    Clippy's Short Life
Clippit was an assistant created by Microsoft to help with frustration when it came to using Microsoft Office. The assistant was tasked with helping users who were confused, frustrated, or outright clueless when it came to using their products. Clippy didn't last long because it was often seen as more of a nuisance than a reasonable add-on to the products.
  • Facebook Invented DeepFace

    Facebook Invented DeepFace
DeepFace is the AI tracker which automatically can sort different people based on a picture. This was a huge leap in affective computing due to the sheer number of people who use FaceBook and thus use this feature. It can sort faces up to around a 98% accuracy. Meaning, people who upload pictures to the platform can look up all the photos in which a specific person is shown.

  • EPU Creation by EmoShape

    EPU Creation by EmoShape
An emotion processing unit (EPU) was created by Emoshape which allows machines to mimic and understand human emotion at a deeper level than ever before. It is able to create synthetic emotions in intelligent machines. This is a fundamental step in creating AI which can understand our needs at a level more than 1's and 0's. This greatly bridged the gap of human and machine interfaces.
  • Synchronous Virtual Assistants

    Synchronous Virtual Assistants
By this time there will be virtual assistants which will follow the user throughout their entire day. This assistant will be connected to your home, vehicle, phone, and all devices a person interacts with. Having one assistant rather than siri for your phone, alexa hub at home, and rough assistants in vehicles will make a significant impact on people's lives. It will still be lacking major components at this time.
  • Human and Machine Are One

    Human and Machine Are One
Microchips which can not only read important vitals in a user's body but also allow the user to interact with all technologies throughout the world will be the norm. Think it, and the chip will help to get it done. The assistant will understand your emotions and needs, then be able to make complex conclusions on what the person wants. It will be hard to think of a time without the synchronicity of humans and machines because they will be intertwined forever.
