First book fair
I remember the first book fair I gone to like it was yesterday. I was in 1st grade at Bronx Academy of Promise, the school year had just opened up and so to encourage students to read they held a book fair. My parents had given me $10 for the fair, so I had bought a book called The Adventures of Ook and Gluk: Kung-Fu Cavemen from the Future. I can still vividly remember staying up all night to read that book. It stands in my mind as one of the most interesting books Dav Pilkey has ever made -
First Manga
Black Butler was the first Manga I ever read and it was also the first anime I watched. It was my introduction into the world of anime and I don't regret reading it, It was filled with so much mystery and suspense I thought my heart would burst. I wonder who I would've been if I didn't actually pick up that book. I have never revisited the manga or anime but I still think it was a solid 7.623/10 -
Bad Summer
During the summer before my 6th grade year I had gotten all my electronics taken away due to a horrible act I had committed. To save myself from my boredom I had spent most of my days reading. I read books like The Limit, The Giver, and The Sandman; after a certain point I did get my phone back but I still remember the joy I felt while reading each story. -
"Stay Gold, Ponyboy"
In 6th grade my teacher had forced my class to read the outsiders and then write a essay on the literary techniques used in the book. The Outsiders now stands in 3rd place for my favorite books of all time, the plot and imagery used in the book was so immaculate that I go reread the book from time to time. I can still vividly remember how our teacher tried to engrain the way authors use certain literary techniques by using this book as an example. -
Creation
In 2017, I was given the task of creating a fictional story for my ELA teacher. The story I had formed was basically a Harry Potter ripoff but it was solid. The book was kinda nonsensical and seem to have a set line of events but I really loved making it since I could let my mind flow free. I got like 89/100 on it but I still see it as one of the most memorable assignments I had ever done -
Webnovels
During my Freshman year I had found myself reading more and more online novels. I would find myself reading them on the train ride to school and during breaks in class. After about 6 months of reading novels I started to actually write online short stories for the site I read on. My first few novels did poorly but after a while I got the hang of it and now I wrote a novel that scored 4.2/5 -
To Kill A Mockingbird
Nearing the end of 2021, Chrystal Fanelli, my AP English Lit teacher had taken us on a trip to NYC to see the Broadway showing of To Kill a Mocking Bird. I had already read the book in 7th grade but seeing the story I had previously read being played out made me think about the book on a whole new level. -
Oedipus
In AP Lit we were forced to read the book Oedipus Rex a play by Sophocles. This story was one of tragedy as the king of Thebes, Oedipus, unknowingly killed his father Laius and married his mother Jocasta; these actions had spawned issues throughout his kingdom and led to be ousted from society. This has cemented its place in my memories due to it being one of the first Greek plays i had seen.
