Proclamation of 1763
The royal Proclamation of 1763 reserved all the western territory for Native Americans and stopped colonist from moving westward, if any colonist tried to achieve any of the western land it would be swept by the crown and taken away. Colonist felt as if their right to settle in western land had been violated. -
Sugar Act
The Sugar Act is what outlawed the importation of foreign rum due to colonists smuggling but taxed other goods. Colonists felt as if they were being oppressed so they protested against it. -
Currency Act
The Currency Act is when paper bills being printed were not permitted for the colonist. The colonists economy were affected heavily by this due to the fact that they already lacked hard money and trade was difficult. These factors led to the colonist to protest again. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act of 1765 is what required colonists to be taxed by Great Britain and demonstrate with stamps that they made a payment for their everyday items and materials like papers, newspapers, land, documents, etc... The colonists responded to this act by protesting against it with a group called "The Sons of Liberty". -
Quartering Act
The Quartering Act of 1765 colonists were required to help British soldiers in need as well as house them too. The colonists also felt as if their rights have been violated during this since there was a failed representation for them. -
Declaratory Act
The Declaratory Act of 1766 is what Parliament enforced on the American colonists to demonstrate how they had the right to any laws made towards the colonies were by any means possible, meaning that they could continue to tax them. The colonists reacted to this by being more enraged since it meant more taxes meaning "no taxation without representation.' -
Townshend Act
The Townshend Act of 1767 is what required for colonists to be taxed on imports like paper, glass, lead, and tea from Britain. The colonists reacted to this by protesting and telling Parliament that they did not have the right to tax the colonies. Not only that but the colonies also started making their own tea and paper so that they didn't have to pay the tax. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre is when the colonist started being hostile towards the British troops in Boston which started with a harmless protest with snowballs and broke out into violence when British soldiers shot several protesters in self defense due to the riot. The colonists reacted to this event by being enraged and using it as fuel to go against the English government by creating propaganda. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party is when Adam and his allies all formed together to protest against Britain and dumped tea that was imported by the British East India Company into the harbor, for the fact that they were being taxed without representation. -
Intolerable Acts (Coercive Acts)
The Intolerable Acts were a series of 4 laws that Parliament enforces on the colonies as punishment as a way to respond to the previous Boston Tea Party protest. The colonist responded by protesting against the acts. -
Quartering Act 1774
The Quartering Act of 1774 enforced local colonist to house British troops. The colonists disliked this act in general since it went against their privacy. -
Quebec Act
The Quebec Act is what enforced previous French practices like Catholicism and blocked northern colonial expansion. The colonists reacted to the act by considering it intolerable and went against their rights and freedom.
