Acts of The Parliament

  • The Navigation Act

    The Navigation act didn't allow merchants to send there goods using foreign ships. This caused for the colonists to start smuggling.
  • Proclamation

    The Proclamation prohibited any settlement on the west of the Appalachian mountain. This made the colonist angry because the ones that were already in the west had to move to the east causing them to protest.
  • Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act reduced the tax on sugar and reduced the tax on molasses. The colonists said that the taxes were unfair. They had no representation in the Parliament, so they protested.They started to smuggle it.
  • Stamp Act

    The stamp act required the colonists to pay a tax on legal documents . They also had to pay tax for every pair of dice and deck of cards.This made the colonist angry causing them to start boycotts , protests, and riots. The colonists believed that since the act was passed by the England parliament, not their government, they shouldn't have to pay these taxes. It is a direct tax.
  • Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act required colonists to provide British soldiers with food and housing. The colonists said that this act violated the Bill of Rights and started to protest.
  • Declaratory Act

    The Declaratory Act was made to guarantee that the British Parliament had the power to make laws for the colonies. This caused the colonist to start saying no taxation without representation. this Act also abolished the stamp act, so the colonists were celebrating a victory.
  • Townshend Act

    The Townshend Act taxed on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea imported to the colonies. The colonist protested with the Boston Tea Party, The Boston Non-Importation Agreement, etc. they boycotted. Repealed in 1770.
