  • Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763 made it illegal for any colonists to buy and settle in any land west of the Appalachian mountains. Any people who were already living in the area were required to leave. This act angered the colonists and made them feel like it took away their right to live freely without the control of British.
  • Currency Act

    The Currency Act prohibited the colonies from creating their own form of currency making them rely on the British for their currency. The colonists protested this act.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act aimed at trying to end the smuggling of sugar and molasses into the American colonies by taxing all goods with sugar. This in turn disrupted the economy of the colonies. In response to this act, the colonists organized a boycott of luxury goods imported from Great Britain to the colonies.
  • Quartering Act

    The quartering Acts required locals within the American colonies to provide British soldiers with housing and food. The colonists hated this act because it required them to pay the taxes for the barracks and provisions for an army they saw as unnecessary at the time.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was an act that placed taxes on all goods made of paper within the colonies to recuperate the funds that Britain spent in the wars. The colonists fought against this act by protesting through the streets.
  • Declaratory Act

    This act stated that the parliament had the same authority over the colonies that they had in Britain. It allowed them to pass whatever laws they wanted to bind the colonists. The colonists did not approve of this act and convinced the parliament to repeal it.
  • Townshend Act

    The Townshend Act placed new taxes on imports of paper, paint, lead, glass, and tea being imported to the colonies. The colonists resented this act and started protests to get it removed.
