Abortion in ancient times existed. A woman could have one and get away with it. But if the father didn't want one or turned her into the authorities because he didn't like that she had one, she could be killed. -
Abortions in Colonial Times
In 18th and 19th century, early Church allowed abortions until quickening. Quickening was when the mother felt the child move inside her. A few years later, many doctors and church members urged the end of abortion. -
Feminist movement and abortion
In the 1960's and 1970's many women were fighting for equal rights. They wanted to be treated equally in jobs, voting, and education. They also brough up their right to have abortions on demand. -
Roe vs Wade
In this time, the only way abortions were legal was to save the mother's life. This case allowed women to have legal and safe abortions. The Supreme Court also ruled that "Americans' right to privacy included the right of a woman to decide whether to have children, and the right of a woman and her doctor to make that decision without state interference." -
What is abortion?
Abortion is the intentional termination of a pregnancy after conception. Women are ending their pregnancies by killing an innocent life. Some say women have the right to do what they want with their body, but does that include killing?
