The First Fleet Arrive
The first conflict between the original inhabitants and the First Fleet arrivals takes place near Sydney, two convicts are killed. -
Smallpox Epidemic
A smallpox epidemic decimates the Eora Aboriginal people of Port Jackson, Botany Bay and Broken Bay. -
The Richmond Hill Battle
The Richmond Hill Battle is considered to be the first recorded battle between the Aboriginal people defending their country against the British. -
Black Wars
The Aboriginal people in the areas of Hawkesbury and Parramatta areas begin their six year resistance to the white settlement, also known as the 'Black Wars'. -
The Black Wars of Tasmania
Tasmania is now occupied by the Europeans, the Aboriginals of Tasmania resist and there is The Black Wars of Tasmania which lasts until 1830. -
Open Fire At Risdon Cove
Lieutenant William Moree orders to open fire at Risdon Cove, killilng between 30-60 Aboriginal people. The lieutenant covers up the incident, claiming only 3 or 4 were shot. The slaughter of Aboriginal people in Australia has begun. -
Mission Stations
Aboriginal people begin to be moved to onto mission stations where they are taught European beliefs and are being used as cheap labour. -
Native Institution
Governor Macquarie opens a school for Aboriginal people at Parramatta called the 'Native Institution' to 'civilise, educate and foster habits of industry and decency in the Aborigines.' The local Aboriginal people remove their children after realizing the school is designed to distance the children from their families. -
Massacre At Bathurst
Martial law is proclaimed in the Bathurst area when 7 Europeans are killed by Aboriginals and they are considered a serious threat. The Aboriginal people are attacked and the Massacre at Bathurst resulted in as many as 100 Aboriginal people killed. -
Battle of Pinjarra
Governor Stirling leads a party of men to attack a group of 80 Aboriginal people as punishment after conflict with the settlers caused the death of a European. A whole clan of Aboriginal people were killed, whilst only one European was killed. -
Treaty
John Batman attempts to make a treaty with the Aboriginal people for Port Phillip Bay by 'buying' 243,000 hectares of land with 20 pairs of blankets, 30 tomahawks, various other articles and a yearly tribute. Governor Bourke doesn't recognise the treaty and the proprosistion is voided. -
Policy Protection
A British Select Commitee examins the treatment of Australian Aboriginal people, they are given a policy of protection which includes the involvment of the Catholic Church in missionary work and the establishment of schools for Aboriginal children. -
Myall Creek Massacre
12 heavily armed colonists rounded up and brutually killed 28 Aboriginal people from a large group at Myall Creek. The Massacre was payback for the killing of several shepards. Seven stockmen are eventually hanged for the murder and it causes outrage amongst the Europeans that anyone would be hung for killing an Aboriginal. -
Native Police
Indeginous troopers, trained to track and disperse groups of Aboriginal people is created by Governor Bourke in NSW, the force is called; Native Police. -
Board of National Education
The Board of National Education, established in NSW, states, 'It is impractical to provide any form of education for the children of blacks.' NSW native troops are brought to Queensland to kill Aborginal people and open the land up for settlement. -
Australian Cricket Team
The first Australian Cricket Team to leave Australia and tour England is all Aboriginal, some of the team find it difficult to adapt to the climate and one team member dies. -
Removement of Children
Victorian Board for the Protection of Aborigines is established and the Governor can order the removal of any child to a reformatory or industrial school. The Protection Board can also remove children from station families to be housed in dormitories. -
A Reduced Population
The Aboriginal Population is reduced 220,000 Australia wide, they are now an estimated 80,000.
