Proclamation of 1763
The purpose was to set the Appalachian Mountains as the western boundary line. It was to prevent fighting between the Native Ameircans and the colonists. The outcome of this was that speculators were furious. They had already bought land past the boundary line and they couldn't use it. -
Sugar Act 1764
The purpose of this act was to lower the taxes. They were lowered because Grenville wanted the colonists to pay taxes and not smuggle. Officers also had permission to seize goods from smugglers without going to court. The colonists reaction to this was they thought it violated their rights as English citizens, to be secure in their own homess, and their right to jury trials. -
Stamp Act 1765
The purpose of this act was that it made it to were all printed materials with taxes on them had to get a stamp on it. The stamp would be put on after the tax was paid. The colonists reaction was that they passed a resolution, protesters had burned effigies, merchants boycotted and many of them signed nonimportation aggreements. -
Declaratory Act 1766
This acts purpose was to allow Parliament to tax and make the decisions for the British colonies. The outcome of this act was that Parliament had passed many laws to the colonies and it angered them. -
Townshend Acts 1767
The purpose of this act was that it made it to where there were taxes on glass, tea, and paper. The outcome of this act was colonists only thought that there representatives could tax them. The colonist did another boycott and women made groups like the Daughters of Liberty. -
Tea Act 1773
This act allowed the British East India company a virtual monoply for the trade of tea in the colonies. This act also let them sell directly to the shopkeepers. -
Quebec Act 1774
This act was the set up of government in Quebec. It gave Quebec the land north of the Ohio RIver and west of the Appalachian Mountains. The outcome of this was that colonists gave the acts their own name which was the Intolerable Acts. -
Coercive Acts 1774 (Intolerable Acts)
This act punished Massachusetts people for the ruin of tea. These punishments were things like having to shelter a soldier in your own home.The outcome of this was that colonists thought this violated their rights as English citizens. These rights were no quartering of troops in private homes and no standing army in peacetime. -
