First Meeting
First meeting o the Estats-General in 175 years, held at Versailles. This meeting was to impose taxes on nobility. King Luis XVI was forced to call a meeting by the Second estate. In the Estates-General there would be representatives from all three estates -
National Assembly
The Third Estate votes to create a National Assembly, proclaiming the end to absolute monarchy and the beginning of a representative government. Three days later they made Tennis Court Oath , completeing a new constitution. This was the first deliberate act of revolution. -
Bastille Day
A large crowd was looking for gunpowder and arms entered the Paris prison Bastille. This became a French National Holiday known as Bastille Day. -
Liberty and Equality
Noblemen did speeches to tell the people about their love of liberty and equality. They became part of the National Assembly. They supported the idea of making everyone equal. Fuedalism ended. -
Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen
The National Assembly issued a statement, that stated revolutionary ideas and the declaration of the citizens. -
Women's March of Versailles
Parisian women rioted because of the rising price of bread. They went to Versailles and took knives, axes, and other weapons. They demanded that the National Assembly take action. -
Church and Government
Government confiscates church property. -
France is diveded
France divdes into 83 departaments. -
Royal Family Escape
The Royal Family attempted to escape from France to the Austrian Netherlands. -
New Constiution
National Assembly finished the new constitution and King Louis approved. This new constitution created a limited constitutional Monarchy, and a legislative body. -
Declared War
The legislative government declared war. This is because people were spreading their revolutionary ideas across Europe. Declared war on Austria and Prussia. They were mad that the ideas would enter their country. -
National Convention
The King dissolved the assembly and called for the election of a new legislature. The National Convention took office on this date.
