  • Who decided to start a school and why

Who decided to start a school and why
It starts of by saying that in 1647 the general court of Massachusetts decreed that every town with fifty families have an elementary school and every town of 100 families should have an Latain school the purpose was so that the Puritan kids could learn to read the Bible and learn about their Calvinist religion.

Continental Congress passes a law that created townships for local schools. They created land grants that later became U.S. systems or Universities. The sad part about this is that congress gave away land that was not theirs to give away. The land belonged to the Natives and in 1790 Pennsylvania called for free education for the poor thinking that the rich would pay for their own children to go to school.
  • No education for slaves

    No education for slaves
It was forbidden to teach a slave to read or write
    1820-1830
The first high school open in Boston and Massachusestes make laws that everyone can learn free of charge. In 1830 several states had passed laws forbidding teaching slaves to read which is the reason so many people who came out of slavery were literate. It spills over into today's society.

    Holding us down
    1864-1877
Native Americans can't be taught in their own languages. Natives was sent away to boarding schools. One official said this plot was to kill the Indian to save them meaning the white man. Africans Americans can learn now and made a pact with the white man to change things. The fact remains that white’s would benefit more than the black children things still have not changed much today.
  • Plessy -VS- Ferguson

    Plessy -VS- Ferguson
separate but equal This was a case that came from the separate car act where whites had one part of the car and blacks had the back part of the car. The crazy part is that we could ride on the same car but different parts. I have never understood how you could be separate and equal at the same time. The thing is that if you have any black in you you were black. It didn’t matter how white your skin maybe.
  • Everyone want’s control

    Everyone want’s control
    Fight for control
School and religions will never see eye to eye. It was a power struggle over control that made the big separation between the school and the state. This was a time when everyone was fighting for the right to educate. Carl Koestler stated that schools was built on a number of things like American commitment to republican government, protestant culture and capitalism.
  • The nineteen hundreds

    The nineteen hundreds
A new thing came into play in the nineteen hundreds his name was Horace Mann. This man changed education and brought a new way of learning. He brought new ideas to education making is standard across the board. The idea came from the Prussians I never knew that until now the only thing that I knew about Perussians was from the Bible. This was age grading and a common school but blacks still was not allowed. This came about later in history.

    Equal protection
This is a case about being treated equal when it came to education. 1954 was a good year for the black race after all the fighting to be treated equal we finally had a win. Was it unconstitutional to treat the black race different of course it was but first the white race had to move away from the thinking that they owned black people. It has always been that slaves had no rights and that they were property.
  • Title IX

    Title IX
    discrimination
This applies to all schools who receive federal funding. This means that schools have to be equal with their educational practices. This law covers all parts of treatment when it comes to education sexual, religion, counseling and any other area of education. The great part is that the school can not retaliate against you for expressing your rights.

    Illegal Alien
Blacks and Indians are not the only race that have had to fight in this country. Mexicans have had their share in the struggle for equal treatment. Are illegal aliens people that have the same rights as the people in the state that they are in is the question. I like to think that because the fight has been won it was easy for the court to agree that not educating the children of illegal aliens would be unconstitutional.
  • Help me I have a disability

Help me I have a disability
. It’s so profound that I’m reading this act because my wife's granddaughter who is ADHD is having problems in school. She is not getting the proper help from her teachers and feels like she is being singled out. There are services that are provided for her but it turns out that the granddaughter's counselor and teacher doesn't get along so this has created a big problem.
