Thomas Mifflin was a businessman, member of the Continental Congress, and a major-general in George Washington’s army during the Revolutionary War. He served 3 terms as governor of Pennsylvania, and afterwards, he returned to the state legislature until his death. -

The Bill of Rights was part of the New Constitution for the nation. It was added on several years after the Constitution was ratified. -
Whiskey Rebellion
The Whiskey Rebellion started with the government making an excise tax on whiskey. This tax hurt farmers and other frontiersmen who made and loved whiskey, so they started rebelling. David Bradford, who became one of the central leaders of rebellions, gathered a militia, only to flee when George Washington sent troops their way. -
Political Parties
Many people in the United States had strong feelings about about how much money the federal government had, so the political parties were formed. There are the Federalists and the Democratic Republicans. -
Fries Rebellion
Another tax was made on land houses and slaves, and many people began rebelling again. A former militia captain, John Fries, began freeing protest leaders, but when he tried to escape President Adams’ militia, his own dog’s barking gave him away. -
The Battle of Lake Erie
The Battle of Lake Erie was pert of the War of 1812. Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, who was in charge of naval forces on Lake Erie, set out with a small squadron of ships to face the much larger British fleet. Perry had to flee to Niagara where the Niagara and American ships defeated the British only in a matter of hours. -
The Treaty of Ghent
The Treaty of Ghent was finally established in 1815. The officially ended the war of 1812. -
The Battle of New Orleans
The Battle of New Orleans took place after the Treaty of Ghent, because word of the peace treaty reached America slowly. This war, in which Andrew Jackson defeated many a large force of British troops, was the last battle in the War of 1812.
