A Look Into My Technology Filled Life

  • My Love of Movies Began

    My Love of Movies Began
In 1993 I was 3 years old and obsessed with watching The Little Mermaid. My mom said I learned to work the VCR myself and would watch this movie over and over again. They had to replace the VHS tape, and I also own it on DVD now. I have tons of DVDs and use Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime to watch films.

    When Boybands Were Cool
My grandparents and aunt bought me my first CD boombox player for Christmas. It came with a ton of CDs, mainly boybands. I was so excited to have a CD player, because I only had a cassette player until this point. I eventually got an iPod as a gift, but I still continued to buy CDs to listen to.

  • America Online

    America Online
I moved back to WV from KY in 1999, and when I moved, I lost my best friend. However, AOL gave me the opportunity to reconnect with my friend through e-mail and AIM. I actually learned to type fast because I was always on AIM. I actually had the fastest typing in my school when I was in the 8th grade! I also never thought at the age of 9 I would be using e-mail to receive bills and using it in my career. At this time I just saw AOL as ways to talk to my friends.

  • My First Cell Phone

    My First Cell Phone
I was so excited to get my first cell phone! It took a lot of time to convince my parents that I could afford to pay for it and it would benefit me to get ahold of them during away ball games. After much debate, they finally agreed! It's funny to look at how much cell phones have changed since then.

  • My First Big Purchase

    My First Big Purchase
I saved all of my graduation money to purchase my first laptop for college. Our desktop computer wasn't very reliable, and I needed something that I could take with me to school and on trips so I could complete my assignments. I spent about $700 on it, and it only lasted me a few years. Even though I don't use the computer, I can't part with it because $200 of the money I used came from my grandparents who have both passed away.

  • The Noise is Gone!

    The Noise is Gone!
I grew up in Mason County, WV, which means there's not a lot going on here. I had dial-up Internet until the Spring of 2012. It was incredibly difficult to complete assignments for college because I couldn't get videos or webpages to load. When we finally got the Internet, I was ecstatic ditch the phone cord, be mobile, and load my assignments. It was so surreal to be able to have wireless Internet accessible to my computer, not just my cell phone.

    What a Rotten Apple
Once I retired my hp laptop, I purchased an Apple Macbook Pro in 2012. My friends told me how awesome they were, so I invested the grand with the help of credit cards and scholarship money. It crashed less than a year later. =/

  • I'm Finally a Teacher!

    I'm Finally a Teacher!
In 2014 I was hired to Winfield High School in Putnam County, WV. I was assigned an Office 365 email, which gave me access to OneDrive. This is by far one of the most useful tools I have as an educator. All my files are saved here in folders, and I can share with other educators and students! This program also allows me to edit documents online, and leave feedback for my students! This is much better than how I used to receive feedback from my teachers.

  • Goodbye Lucy, Hello Charlie

    Goodbye Lucy, Hello Charlie
From my senior year of high school through my first year of teaching, I drove Lucy - a 2004 Saturn Ion. She was a very basic car: hand crank windows, no auxiliary port, no bluetooth, my charging ports didn't work, and no fog key. In August of 2015, it was time to upgrade. I now own a 2012 Chevy Cruze, Charlie. My new to me car has power windows, bluetooth, an auxiliary port, Sirius radio, a USB port, chargers, a fog key, and even automatic start. I love it!

In a Galaxy Not So Far Away
I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and I love it! I've had many cell phones growing up, and I can say that I finally have one that fits all of my needs. My phone not only allows me to call, text, and email, but I can check the weather, post to social media, complete school assignments, and even contact my students using apps. I finally have a phone that lets me have a social and professional life all in one!
