Camping Trip
August, 1980, The Chamberlain family went on a family camping trip to Uluru/Ayers Rock, NT. -
Gone
August 17, 1980, Azaria Chamberlain went missing from the family tent. -
A Jumpsuit
August 24, 1980, The bloody jumpsuit and singlet of Azaria was found near a dingo lair. -
1st Inquest
December 15, 1980, first inquest into the death of Azaria Chamberlain is opened. -
Dingo Did It
February 20, 1981, Coroner Barritt finds that Azaria was taken and killed by a dingo. -
Police Search
September 19, 1981, Northern Territory police simultainiously search the home of the Chamberlains, along with the homes of key and some eye witnesses. -
1st Inquest Quashed
November 18, 1981, The NT Supreme Court overrules the findings of the first inquest, and orders a second inquest into Azaria's death. -
2nd Inquest Opened
December 14, 1981, A second coroner's inquest into the death of Azaria is opened by Coroner Galvin. -
Trial
February 2, 1982, Coroner Galvin sent Lindy Chamberlain to trial in relation to the murder of Azaria, and Michael Chamberlain for being an accessory to Azaria's murder. -
Chamberlain Trial
September 13, 1982, The Chamberlain trial opens in a Darwin courthouse. James Muirhead is the Judge. -
Found Guilty
October 29, 1982, The Chamberlain case goes to the jury. The jury finds a heavily preagnant Lindy Chamberlain guilty of murder and Michael guilty of being an accessory. Lindy Chamberlain is sentenced to life imprisonment and Michael recieves an eighteen month suspended sentence. -
Kahlia
February 7, 1983, Lindy chamberlain gives birth. She is held at Mulawa Women's Prison, then transferred to Darwin after application for bail pending High Court appeal fails. Baby girl Kahlia goes to live with foster parents Wayne & Jenny Miller. -
The Petition
May 3, A petition with 131,000 signatures which called for Lindy’s release is presented to Governor General Sir Ninian Stephan. -

February 2, 1986, A day jacket matching the description of the one Azaria was wearing when she disappeared is found at Ayers Rock. -
Lindy Released
February 7, 1986, Lindy Chamberlain is released from prison. Another inquest into the death of Azaria is ordered. -

October 21, 1987, The NT Government allow the Chamberlains to apply to the Court Of Appeal to have their convictions quashed. -

A Cry In The Dark
November 1988, A movie about the Chamberlain case starring Meryl Streep as Lindy is released, it is titled A Cry In The Dark. -
Wrongful Imprisonment
1992, Lindy Chamberain was awarded $1,300,000.00 for wrongful imprisonment. -
Officially Unsolved
1995, a third inquest into Azaria’s death delivered an open finding, leaving the case officially unsolved. -
