    Bourbon Reforms
    The Bourbon Reforms was a series of Reforms created by the House of Bourbon which hoped to strengthen economic and commercial developments so Spanish America would be more profitable to Spain. Charles III was a king that was most adamant on these reforms being made. (1740s-1790s)
  • Expulsion of Jesuits

    Expulsion of Jesuits
    Spanish Kings believed Jesuits were a threat to the Spanish Crown because they diminished the power of it. When people resisted to this expulsion the Jesuits were also blamed for any mobs or rebellions that the expulsion created.
  • Latin America achieves Independence

    Latin America achieves Independence
    By 1825, most countries in Latin America had claimed their independence like Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, and Colombia. These wars for independence may have followed in the footsteps of the most prominent revolutions before it, the French and American revolutions.

    When Texas became an official U.S. State in 1845, this intervened with Mexican territory, which is why when Texas became a state it became a large cause to the Mexican-American War.

    Mexicans were upset about Texas being taken because they still considered it to be their land, so when a rebellion happened at a US outpost killing 12 soldiers, congress declared war. Not only did this push back Mexicans but in the process Americans gained even more land from Mexico. (1846-1848)

    When Diaz was in control of Mexico in 1876 with Mexico being in giant debts and a empty treasury, Diaz saw no other way to improve Mexico other than to modernize it. With better trade the economic state of Mexico dramatically improved. (1877-1910)

    This revolution was against the 35 year long dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz and was a genuine armed revolution because of the political crisis he caused being a unlikeable dictator.

    The Mexican Constitution draft implemented social rights and aimed to restrict the power of the church, established secular education and laid more rules in land reform.

    By 1924 the United States occupied Haiti Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic this caused a lot of outrage against the foreign occupancy. This caused culture to have a discontent for Americans.

    Brazil's social order is heavily impacted by the patriarchy where women are subordinate to men, so it was a very big change when women were allowed to vote due to an initiative caused by Berta Liz.

    Franklin Roosevelt used the good neighbor policy as more of a front to invade and control Mexico for a period of time. It also claimed a non intervention policy, but the US invaded mexico multiple times after.

    Gabriela mistraelo is the first Latin American citizen to ever win a Nobel peace prize for a piece of literature she wrote. This showed the Latin American people they could receive awards as well.

    Colombian populist assassinated
    When Colombian populist Gatan was assassinated there was an outcry because Gatan was supposed to be the next president, and many Colombians still blame this event for the mass violence in Columbia today.

    This was a thirteen day period where the United States and Russia threatened to store missiles in Cuba, causing fear to people all around the world.

    Che Guevara Executed
    Che Guevara was a communist revolutionist and he was executed in Bolivia for trying to start a communist revolution and killing many people himself.

    Mercosur trade creation
    This was a trade Bloc established in 1995 and had connections with the European Union. Some of it's members involved were Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Bolivia.

    In the Brazil general election Lula da Silva won the election and is was the president of Brazil.

    Uruguayan socialist wins President
    In Uruguay in 2004 the people elected socialist Tabare Vasquez as leader of Uruguay. He is currently the 41st president of Uruguay.
  • Fidel Castro dies

    Fidel Castro dies
    Many people had split interpretations of him, either a revolutionist or a murderer. He belonged to the communist party of Cuba and believed in massive reforms for Cuba. His death was a good day or a bad day depending on who you are.
