10,000 french citizens went to Tuileries palace to capture King Louis XVI
Before they could reach him the king found out about the attack and him and his family fled to the legislative assembly
The angry citizens killed most of the gaurds and workers in the palace in spite of the king. -
Nobles and Clergy atacked in Paris prisons
Angry citizens kill prisoners who are anti revelutionist in fear that one day they will be set free by invading nations and then will fight against the revelution. Many of the people who were killed in the prisons were nobles/clergy -

Jacobins/Republic
The Jacobins were a very radical group, although they were still considered relatively moderate. They firmly believed in the need to remove all social class distinctions. They also believed that the vote should be universal and that government should provide for the welfare of the poor. -
King Louis XVI
January 20, 1793, the National Convention condemned Louis XVI to death, his execution scheduled for the next day. Louis spent that evening saying goodbye to his wife and children. While riding to get executed he was given a carriage because people were throwing things at him and shouting names. -
Commitee of public Saftey
The committee of public saftey was created to deal with the many threats of france. It had 12 members who had almost absolute power. They created Levee en masse which rquired all french people to contribute to the war efforts. -
Maximilien Robespierre
Known as the "incorruptible" Robespierre quickly rose to leader of the comittee of public saftey. He wanted to abolish slavery and promoted religous tolerance. Believed that the only way France could achieve a good republic was through terror. -
Reign of Terror
Robespierre was the head of the reign of terror. He ruled feircely and merciless. Trials were quick and most ended with a death senence. Around 40,000 people died during the reign of terror. -
Guillotine
Joseph Guillotine was a doctor who suggested the use of the Guillotine because of the swift, flawless and painless job that it did. It was the method of execution in the reign of terror. Was responsible for 109 executions per day in a one year span. -
Levee en Masse Created
All French peopleneed to contribute to the war in some way. Young men went to fought in the army. Married men made arms and ammunition. Women made tents, clothing, and served in hospitals. Young children turned lint into linen. Older men publicly encouraged warriors and talked of the hatred of the king. This led to more succes in the war -
Marie Antoinette is Executed
She was put on trial and found gilty but showed great dignity as she went to her deathy. Unlike her husband she was brought to her execution on a cart and people threw things and yelled vicious names -
Committee turns on Robespierre
Marked as a dictator and tyrant the committee of public saftey turned on Roespierre. On July 27 1974 he was arrested. As he was getting aressted he was shot in the jaw and could not speak. -
Robespierre executed
The day after he was aressted Robespierre is executed. His death marked the end of the reign of terror. After he died executions reduced signifigantly.
