Georgia converts to christianity
King Mairian the third of the Kartli-Iberia monarchy, adopts christianity for the Georgian people. Its conversion is mostly attributed to a holy captive woman. St. Nino, who was said to posses healing powers. Before christianity, western Georgia held beliefs based on a temple of greek gods. -

Tibilisi is captured!
Inspired by the newly formed islamic faith,The Arabs moved through Persia and the other parts of the reigon, capturing Tibilisi. The Arabs did not want to convert or colonize Georgia, so it was still allowed to practice Christianity. Georgian Princes were still allowed to rule, but under Arab Supervision. Tibilisi soon became the center of many important trade routes. -

The Golden Age Begins
David the Third "the builder" (1099-1225) established and expanded the Georgian empire, begining the golden age of Georgia, which spanned from 1089-1385. King Georgia, also captured parts of Armenia, and expanded all the way to the Caspian Sea. -

Georgia Becomes part of the Ottoman empire
After many lost battes, trying to take over Georgia, the Turks finally Prevailed. As a result most of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, Become part of the Ottoman empire. In 1453, The Ottoman Turks, isolated Georgia and the rest of their empire from Europe. -

The Persians take over georgia
The Persian Shah Abbas kept expanding their empire, until they reached Georgia, which was part of the Ottoman empire. After being a battle ground for many years, the Ottomans and Persians made a peace treaty called "the Peace of Amasia" -
Georgia Becomes part of the Soviet Union
Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Union, Sent in troops, to install a soviet regime. In 1924, the Georgian people organized a rebellion, but it was violently suppressed by Stalin. -
Independance!!
Georgia finially bacame independendent fro the Soviet Union after many years of hardships, and mistreatment. The Soviet Government started loosing control of the Georgian people after a protest was supressed and twenty civilians were killed. Free elections were held in 1990, and were won by a coalition called the round table. Georgia was declared independant on April 9 1991. Zviad Gamskhurdia was elected presedent of the freed republic. -
King Vakhtang Gorgasi Moves to Tibilsi
The King Vakhtang Gorgasi moved his capital to Tibilsi. Thus founding the Capital city, Tibilsi still remains the capital of Georgia today. King Vakhtang Gorgasi helped to strengthen the Iberian church, by setting up bishops in different cities.
