Armenians accepted christianity as ther state religon after St. Gregory, a christian monk presented the idea to them. They trusted St. Gregory because he had just cured king Tiridates of a disease. Armenia was the first nation to accept christianity as its state religon. Christianity remains the state religon in Armenia. -

First Alphabet
The Armenian Alphabet was created by St. Mesrop Mashtots. He first introduced the alphabet by translating the greek bible. Its letters are similar to the greek alphabet. The Armenian alphabet distinguised armenia from the countries surrounding it and gave it a step up in establishing its culture. The alphabet consists of 39 characters and has not changed in 1500 years. The new alphabet was a historic change that led the country into the PRE-Modern times. -

Cilicia is located in southern Turkey. Cilicia was a city that was founded by Armenians that wanted to escape the invasion of Seljuk Turks. Cilicia flourished in trade across Asia and Europe and had a strong culture and economy. Cilicia was also known for its extravagent architecture. -

The Ottoman Empire
The Ottoman empire took control of Armenia in 1453 and had control for about 300 years. The christian and jewish armenians had fewer rights under the Ottoman rule, they were the minorities. The Ottoman empire lost power during the Russo-Turkish war in every place except western Armenia. They later lost power in western Armenia during World War I. -
The Russo-Turkish War
After Russia lost land in the Cremean War it was looking to gain some. The Ottoman empire was becoming weak due to famine and drought. The Russians declared war against the Ottoman empire and started to invade Turkey. The Russians won the war creating the downfall of the Ottoman empire. -
The Armenian Genocide
The Ottoman empire was a muslim system therefore they gave armenian christians little freedom. On the night of April 24 1915 the Ottoman turks arrested 250 armenians beginning the Armenian genocide. They killed about 1.5 armenians during the genocide. The genocide occured in turkey and cause almost the entire armenian population living in turkey to disappear. -
Armenia became apart of the soviet union
The ruler of Armenia, Dashnak, gave Armenia over to the Soviet Union. Although the soviet union is communist Armenia started to become a more modernized country. Armenia started making more modern items such as electrical appliances and precision instuments. The war with Azerbaijan destroyed Armenia recent step towrds industralization. The second golden age
Armenia advanced in art and literature. There was prosperity among the cities and time to evolve from ancient times into pre-modern times. In the eleventh century the invasion of the Seljuk Turks caused the nation to collapse. This caused their new advances in tecnology to diminish.
