Sugar Act
The Sugar Act of 1765 lowered the taxes from the morasses act of 1733 but stayed in favor of the British. This was done to try and prevent Americans from smuggling into the West Indies. The Act also puts an indirect tax on sugar and gives British soldiers the right to search ships whenever they enter or leave the harbor. This act is important in history because this act started the arise of the taxation without representation in the colonies. -
1st Quartering Act
The 1st Quartering Act of 1766 forced Americans to house and feed British Soldiers. This enraged the American colonist because it was like helping the other side out at this point. The colonist were being charged by Parliament to buy food and now they had to feed these soldiers too. This caused a lot of term oil in the colonies. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre of 1770 was and still is to this day, a foggy event. 5 American colonist were shot by British soldiers trying to defend themselves against a mob of 400+ colonists. The colonists viewed it as a massacre with the victims being innocent enraging them. The colonist viewed this as an act of war and that the colonies should then go to war with the British. The massacre starts a chain of rebels. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party of 1773 was a rebel against the tea act of 1773. Many colonist dressed up as Mohawk Indians and dumped millions of dollars worth of tea into the harbor. England saw this as a threat to there rule . This made them angry causing the Parliament to introduce the intolerable acts. -
Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts of 1774 were four acts put into session restricting the Boston colony. The biggest being the Boston Port Act which completely shut down the Boston harbor killing Boston’s economy. The other three being, The Mass. Govt. Act, The Justice Act, and The Quartering Act. This act caused the colonies to start the push for Independence. -
Lexington and Concord
Lexington and Concord,1775, was seen as a major act of war by the British. The goal of Lexington and Concord was to seize leaders and ammunition supply to Concord. The troops were met by 150 militia troops. 8 were killed, 11 were wounded. This was the final straw for America. They wanted their Independence, and the British blood. -
Declaration of Independence
Declaration of Independence, 1776, was a document sent to the king stating the American colonies wanted to become their own country and the reasons why. It was one last peaceful attempt at getting their independence. The king laughs at the thought making the Americans mind up to go to war.
