Canadian Immigration History
This timeline will be showing the immigration patterns through out the ages for people from different locations to Canada. -
French Settlers
The French began settling in the New World to enlarge their colony and to confirm a claim to North American Territory. They valued the fur trade, fishing, and many other great resources. -
British Immigration
The British came to the New World in order to escape the conditions in their own country. Some of these condtitions that drove them from their home country were hunger and pverty. -
American Immigration
The Americans immigrated north to Canada to escape from being enslaved. Other reasons for the Americans wanting to migrate to the northern land was to have freedom, for jobs and because of the friendly and welcoming people in Toronto. -
The Northern Europeans
The pull factors that got the Northern Europeans immigrating to Canada was to start new lives, for investments and to become wealthy, and to be able to practice their consience in peace. -
The Southern Europeans
Escaping World War 2 brought the Southern Europeans to Canada. The push factors included lack of food beacuse of the war going on, and because mandy Jewish people were killed during this time. The pull factor for why the Southern Europeans chose to come to Canada was for safety reasons. -
African and Caribbean Immigration
Because there were no jobs in their home lands, the Africans and the people from Caribbean chose to immigrate to Canada. But domestic jobs such as nannies and cleaning ladies don't get paid as much. -
Asian Immigration
Asian's immigrated to the New World hoping for freedom, to become wealthy and for better lives. In their home country, there were no land, jobs or future for them. -
Hong Kong Immigration
The reasons for the people of Hong Kong to immgrate to Canada was the same for the Asians. Immigrating to Canada meant more freedom, to lead better lives, to get rich and for more jobs. In their home country, there were no land, jobs or future for the people. Another reason to leave Hong Kong was to escape from the war between the Koreans and the Japanese. -
Afghanistan, Indian, and Pakistan Immigration
Immigrating to Canada mainly meant positive outcomes such as, great weather all year round, good environments, having more jobs and because Canada is just peaceful. -
Jason- From Hong Kong to Canada
Jason first came from Hong Kong to Canada in 2009. He came with his mom, then she flew back to Hong Kong after coming with him because he had his sisters to watch after him. He came to Canada to learn better English, because it is better to study here in Canada and because his sisters were here. He can speak Mandarin, Cantonese, English, and a little bit of Japanese and French.
