East India Company set up trading posts at Bombay, Madras, and Calcutta; it governed a very large part of India, overtime, it became violent. -
Industrial Revolution in Britain
Villagers onced worked on farms that belonged to wealthy landowners. This was known as the agricultural revolution. They started to built fences, and used alternate ways to farm. They also tried different ways to enrich there soil. They rotated crops around the farm to give the soil nutrients. -

Sepoy rebellion
Indian soldiers serving under British command [sepoys] rebelled against using the British gun cartriges because it was rumored that they used pig and pork fat to grease them-- which was a problem because the cow is very sacred to the Indians and pork is against the Islamic religion therfore both Hindus and Muslims rebelled. This caused the British government to take direct command of India. -

The Mughal Empire fell due to ; firstly Aurangzeb's religious policy was ignored by the people. Although the policy did lead to weakening of the empire but the major cause of decline was the successors after him. -

Indian National Congress also known as the INC were hoping for self-government. Since India was so big the British split it up in two sections a Hindu section and a section for Muslim. This had a negative impact because there was now two seprate groups. -

The INC was changed to a self-government; since it was so large the British split it up to a Hindu section and a Muslim section. This had a negative impact because there were now 2 religious groups, making it hard to unite in order to call for independence. -
Mohandas Ghandi's Leadership of the INC
Ghandi, also known as the Great Soul or Mahatma, became the leader of the INC. His view of politics was it needed to be adressed in a peaceful manner. -
Amritsar Massacre
10,000 Hindus and Muslims gather together at Amristar] to protest, 400 died, 1,200 were wounded. -

This was a Law allowing the British to keep Indians in jail for up to 2 years without trial for protesting, this act led to the Amristar Massacre. -

Ghandi began to lead a nonviolent movement in which Indians refused to obey laws, with that came boycotting of British products Indians began to make their own clothes, and strikes- the British struggled to have the trains and factories continue to run. -
The Salt March
British made a law where you could only buy taxed salt from the government. Ghandi, in return, organized the Salt March where he and his followers walked 240 miles to the seacoast, actually making their own salt from salt water. -
