Montgolfier brothers
Brothers Jaques and Joesph montogolfier of France demostrated flight of the first hot air balloon. On November 21, 1783, a Montogolfier hot air balloon flew 8km across Paris. The balloon was made out of linen bags. The flame underneathe the balloon made the balloon inflate and rise up into the air. -
Father of modern avaition
Sir George Cayley of England, studied animal flight and designed a monoplane glider to carry humans. When a kid, Cayley built and flew model gliders. 40 years after he made a big model that could carry a chilod a few metres off the ground. Then in 1853 he made the first glider that could also carry an adult off the ground. -
Methods to Control Gliders
Otto Lilenthiel of Germany developed methods to control a glider. From a hill in Germany, Otto launched a glider whose flight could be controlled. To control how the glider flew, Otto had to adjust his weight. To create these methods to control the glider, Otto researched about birds and airfoils. -
The American Wright Flyer-First Powered Flight
The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur were the first americans to invent and build the first successful airplane. Building their own propeller and motor, the Wright brothers from the US became the first humans to fly. The 'Flyer 1' had 2 12 metres wings on each side (around 24m wingspan) of the fuselage (the body of the plane). The first flight lasted around 12 seconds with a distance of 36.5 metres. -
John A. McCurdy
Back in 1909 the flight of this aircraft made Canadian history when John A. McCurdy flew it for over half a mile above the frozen surface of Bras d'Or Lake at Baddeck Bay, Nova Scotia.
Recognized as the first flight by a British subject at any point in the British Commonwealth, and the first airplane to fly in Canada, the Silver Dart, was built by a group known as the Aerial Experiment Association. -
Gossamer series human-powered aircraft
Inventor Paul M. of the US used Balsa wood, cardboard, mylar plastic and piano wire to construct a plane with the wingspan of 29metres with a mass of 32kg. It was powered by a single pedal-driven propeller and was steered by twisting the wing tips. The aircraft was called the Gossamer Condor, it flew 1.6km, figure 8 route at an altitude of about 3metres and a speed of 10km/h. The next year a similar craft called Gossamer Albatross flew across the english channel. -
Roberta Lynn Bondar
Roberta Bondar was the second Canadian atsronaut in space, but the very first female in space. She went up in space in the spacecraft Discovery from 22-30 January 1992. Roberta is also a educator, physician, medical doctor, scientist and author. -
NASA Launching First Canadian Satellite
The Canadian's first satellite since 1971, was ready for launching in 1999 on February 4th by NASA. The major scientific goal of the mission was to measure and understand the chemical processes that control the distribution of ozone in the Earth's atmosphere, especially at high altitudes. -
The Kite
The first ever made kite was around 2400 years ago, whch would probably be around 599 BCE. The materials the chinese used to make the first kite was bamboo for a strong, lightframe framework, silk fabric for sail, and fine, silk for the flying line. Alternatively the kite authors, Clive Hart and Tal Streeter, say that the first kites were made Indonesia from leaves based on cave drawings on Muna Island off Sulawesi. -
Mars
I think it will take around 440 years for scientists to invent a way to go to Mars in less time ( since it takes around 400 years to go to Mars with a spaceshuttle). So maybe scientists will reduce the years to 26 years to reach Mars. -
The New Generation Airplane
I think the new generation airplane will be invented around 1000 years later from this year. The new generation airplane is an airplane that does not pollute the earth and has over 10 levels. It will be very lightweight so it can glide through the earth. I think it will have wings that flap and no fuel to pollute. I believe that t will be invented 1000 years from now because for years and years we made pollution, so it's not like a scientist will discover how to not pollute overnight. -
Galaxies
I believe that in the future there will be a spacecraft that can travel the speed of light to other galaxies. And if we do travel at the speed of light we will never get older. I think this will happen a few billion years from now because look at the technology we have now. It's amazing.
