National Assembly Act
On August 4, 1789 in a combative all night meeting, nobles in the Nation Assembly voted to end their privilages. They agreed to give up old manorial dues, exclusive hunting rights, special legal status and exemptiom from taxes. They later had reforms for some of the things they took away on Aug. 4.They made a law of the equality of all French men to hold public office.This caused the women to get mad because they had no say.So they ended up marching 13 miles and protested til they met the king. -

In 1791 Louis XVI failed his escape this brought problems aboard. Louis XVI tried disguising himself as a servant but then he was noticed by someone in a passing through village. The King of Prussia and Emperor of Austria issued the Declaration of Pilnitz.This was a threatened to intervene to protect the French monarchy. This declaration was mostly a bluff, but the French took it seriously and prepared for war. -

In October 1791, the Legislative Assembly took office lasting only for a year due to the economic distress with the drop in the currency vaule and increasing cost.During this time the working class called sams-culottes in Paris demanded a government ruled by elected repersentives thus wanting a republic government vs. a monarch.Several hostile factions competed for power wanting reform.The Jacobins were a radical group consisting of middle class lawyers or intellectuals. -

On August 10, 1792 Royalist officers were deserting the French Army, join emigres and others hoping to restore the king's power.These tendions lead to violence.The Parisiand wanted to kill the royal Family.Then the Radicals took over the Assembly.Because of battle disasters revolutionaries believe that the king was with the enemy.This upset the citizens so they attacked the palace and many prisons.Then Radicals took control & formed the National convection.Then the king was sentenced to death. -

The Reign of TerrorIn 1793 to 1794 Maximilien Robespierre was one of the cheif architechs of the reign of Terror. He believed Terror helped achieve the goals of the Revolution. He did this by death sentences to traders. Robespierre was executed July 28, 1794 which ended the Reign of Terror. -

RevolutionIn 1795 a constitution was set up to make a fair government. The French set up a five man Directory and two-house legislative, which were elected by male citizens of property.But it faced discontent with other countries. The politicians turned to Napolean Bonapark a popular military hero. The politicians were going to use Bonopark to get their own goals but he outwit them and became the leader of France. -
Spread of Nationalism
With war, the French people developed a strong sence of national identity, thus a growing feeling of pride and devotion to one's country this called nationalism. By 1793, France was a nation in arms. People sang songs on themes of the Revolution what later became the French National Anthem called La Marseillaise.
