Early English Colonies
England expanded the Middle Colonies to the Carolinas and to Pnnsylvania. England also gains Dutch and Sweden colonies in the 1600's Sections of Canada were annexed druring the French and Indian War. -
First Settlers
Holland employs Henry Hudson to explore in the year 1609. Some first settlers were of the Hudson River, New Amsterdam, England, and Plymouth, MA. -
Swede's acomplishments 1630's
Sweden, founded permanent towns in Pennsylvania. For example, the Tinicum Island. Also, schools, churches, businesses were developed by Sweden in this time period. They purchased crops from Europe. -
Sweden
A man named Gustavus Adolphus, desired a colony in the new world. Including the Dutch to help. Queen Christina, hired Peter Minuet to lead a journey in 1637. Peter Minuet, however, bought Manhattan from the Indians for things called trinkets. Trinkets, were worth 24 dollars. -
English Control 1640's-1680's
England beat Holland in the war in Europe. Also gains all of Holland's colonies. English soldiers occupy New Amsterdam. Which is now known as New York. Pensylvania remained a part of this colony up to about 1681 -
Penn became a quaker
William Penn becomes a quaker and a preacher. Also joins "society of friends" but becomes imprisioned for his religious beliefs.
