Beginning of Lent
Lent is supposed to be a period of fasting, to represent Jesus's sacrifice and withdrawal in the desert for 40 days. Lent is a period before Easter, because it is supposed to outline the events leading up to Jesus's crucifixtion. -
Easter
Christians celebrate Jesus's resurraction from the dead. It is typically the most attended Sunday church serivce of the year, For Westrn Christians, it marks the end of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting. -
Pentecost
Celebrated 50 days after Easter, Christians celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Pentecost is regarded as the birthday of the Christian church and the start of the church's mission. -
Assumption of Mary
This is a Catholic celebration of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The doctrine of the Assumption states that Mary was taken physically and spirtually into heaven because she was born without original sin. -
Christmas
The birth of Jesus is celebrated by giving. Most give gifts to loved ones around them. Some even give away to complete strangers.
