It was Microsoft's first foray into the gaming console market, and competed with Sony's PlayStation 2, Sega's Dreamcast, and Nintendo's GameCube. The Xbox is not only powerful, but it also contains a built-in broadband and networking support as well as a hard-drive. The Xbox is truly the wave of the future in terms of videogaming.
