Disruption of the Opening Ceremony.
Francis De Groot invaded the opening ceremony, just after the ribbon cut was slashed he and his horse rode around the bridge and quoted "'I declare this Bridge open in the name of His Majesty the King, and of all decent people". This was a very controversial opening and his result of dismissing the ceremony ended up being fined 10 pounds for offensive behaviour and 2 pounds for the damage of the ribbon being dismissed. -
Extension of the Railway opened
The electric railway service was opened the day after the “coat hanger” bridge was declared – as there was an extension of the railway service within the city. This even resulted in no ferry trips for travellers to travel to from the north shore.
