The Libyan government wanted a twelve mile extension zone in the Gulf of Sidrastaring in the 1970s. In 1981 two Libyan planes were flying and fired shots at two American F-14 Tomcats. The effort ended when the Americans used the rules of engagement to shoot down the two Libyans and thus increasing tension between the U.S. and Libya. -

A ccvert operation took place in Grenada a island in the Caribbean. When an alliance consistenting of Jamaica, Barbados, St. Vincent's. St. Lucia, Dominica, and Antigua pleaded directly to Ronald Reagan for help in ousting a Marxist force in Gernada Reagan complied because of the eight hundred American medical students studying in Grenada. 1,900 American troops attacked the island under secrecy and saved the potential hostages. -

Bill Clinton spoke to the country on National Television about his economic plan. This plan consisted of a deficit reduction program and not a tax cut for the middle class, like the nation thought there would be. -
The Waco Tragedy.
The government tried to enact a search warrant on the Branch Dividian Ranch by Mount Caramel. When they served the warrant a gunfight ensued leaving six of the inhabitants dead and four federal agents dead. -
Family and Medical Leave Act signed.
This act was a labor law that required employers to give pay for someone who had to leave due to medical reasons. It also made employers pay women who had to leave there job because of a pregnancy. It was passed by the one hundred and third Congress and then signed by President Clinton. -
Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act.
This act created a 35% income tax rate for companies and all individuals in the top 1.25% of wage earners. It also made many other changes such as the cap on medicare was taken away, and transportation fuels taxes were raised by 4.2 cents. -
Bradey Bill Passed.
This Bill made it so that anyone who purchases a handgun must wait five days to receive it. This was enacted so that sellers can run background checks on clients. It was named after James Brady who took was permanantly disabled after getting shot in the assissanation attempt on Ronald Reagan's life on March 31, 1981. -
NAFTA Came Into Being
Canada, the U.S., and Mexico all signed this agreement to help open up trade between the three countries. It ended up helping elminate many tariffs between the U.S. and Mexico. -
USAir Flight 427
A large passenger plane crashed during its landing to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. It killed all 127 passengers and the 5 crew members. -

Shawn Nelson, a veteran, had been having a very hard time with his life. Because of all his personal problems he decided to steal a M60 Patton Tank. He drove this around San Diego running over anything that got in his way before he was shot to death by the SDPD. -

President Clinton was on his way to talk with a small time politician in the Phillipines when he caught word from a Secret Service agent that there was a bomb planted on the bridge he was going to cross. The men who planned the attack were terrorists working for Osama Bin Laden allegedly. -

There was a religious group in the late nineties called Heaven's Gates. They believed that this world would be destroyed by aliens. They decided that the easiest way to be taken by the aliens and not destroyed would be by commiting suicide. So on March 19 1997 they did a group suicide. -

The second largest bank robbery happened in Charlotte North Carolina. The robbers took 17.3 million dollars. In the end about 56 people were arrested because of it, and about 95 percent of the cash is recovered. -

This was a very controversial thing to do at the time, as many people believed it was a breach of their civil rights. -
