The Rugby World Cup NZ 2011 (national)
The rugby world cup held in NZ next year has been through out the media this year so far and is continuing to be in the media. Due to ticket sales, upgrading of stadiums, international recognition and the changing of the school terms because of it. Many major events have been rescheduled due to the rugby world cup such as the World of Wareable arts show in Wellington.

FIFA World Cup (Football) (international)
The Football World Cup held in South Africa this year has been in the media throughout the year, as this is the first time in a long time that NZ has qualified to compete. It is being held in South Africa this year.

Wars have continued in Iran, Iraq and Afganistan for a long time 2003-2010 (USA anounced that it was pulling out this year) and many people are continually geeting killed over 109,000 already.

33 Chilean Miners trapped (international)
33 Chilean miners were trapped in a mine after it collapsed, they spent over a month waiting to be rescued. they did have a small supply route to have contac with the surface and the rescue was a very lenghty process with the rescue tube taking a long time to get up and down and only one person at a time. the miners were very relieved to get out after having to stay in the tunnels for such a long time and following strict routines to keep them fit and well. -
Tax Cuts (national)
Changes with taxes cut and raises have been happening continually throughout the year.
This is news worthy because many shops etc. are having to raise their prices because of increase in GST many people are confuzed about how much they are actually saving.
