Antipoverty.
Kennedy's staff began work on the antipoverty programs that the president wanted to present as part of a campaign planned for 1964. -
The Assassination.
He traveled to Texas to build support for his 1964 presidential campaign. At about 12:30 , as the motorcade moved through the downtown area, shots rang out. -
Sworn into office.
Hours later Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as president. -
Suspition.
Within hours of the shooting, Dallas police arrested Lee Harvey Oswald as a suspect. Two days later Oswald was shot to death by nightclub owner Jack Ruby. This event made people wonder if Oswald had an accompiance during the assassination.
