    The House System debuts
    On August 16, 2017, students at Riordan started the new year, with the House System being debuted as a new way to foster community.

    46th Annual Frosh Olympics
    On September 15, one of the hallmarks traditions at Riordan started by Ron Isola, the Frosh Olympics, returned for its 46th iteration, but this time freshmen competed in their houses instead of their homerooms. There were two rounds of games and tug of war rounded out the night. The House of Cana was crowned as the inaugural winners of the Frosh Olympics under the House System, and ended up going back to back champions the following year.

    1st Annual Crusader Games
    On April 27, 2018, students came to school, but did not attend any classes. Instead, they had a full day of games and activities–the Crusader Games–as an end of the year event. Continuing their streak from the Frosh Olympics, Cana became the first Chaminade Cup winners, closing out the first year of the House System.

    48th Annual Frosh Olympics
    On Aug 30, 2019, the current senior class of 2023 participated in what would become the final all boys Frosh Olympics. It was the first time the event has recently been held during the school day, after classes, allowing for upperclassmen to be present. Among games like musical chairs, the event featured an impromptu arm wrestling match between Dean Juan Zumbado and the Crusader mascot. The House of Russi captured the title for the first time.

    3rd Annual (Virtual) Crusader Games
    Due to Covid-19 shutting down school, the House System had to adapt and change to the current times. Between May 4 and May 20, 2020, the 3rd Annual Crusader Games went virtual, as well as the Senior Gauntlet. During the two weeks of competition, students were given various challenges through the IG account @arhsactivities like going on a scavenger hunt, that they could complete safely for House points. All students showed resilience, but in the end the House of Bolts won the Chaminade Cup.

    49th Annual Frosh Olympics
    With the 2020-2021 school year starting off completely virtually, the freshman class of 2024 stepped into uncharted territory. Nevertheless, Student Parliament worked to bring the joys of the House System to them through a week-long Frosh Olympics. Students were invited to come to school during allotted times to compete in games on Mayer Family Field like dodgeball. Despite all the adversity, the House of Russi prevailed and won their second Frosh Olympics title.
  • 4th Annual Crusader Games

    4th Annual Crusader Games
    With Covid restrictions easing from the start of the school year, the 4th Annual Crusader Games resembled normal times. There were in person games during lunch and a point rush day, as well as online games. The Senior Gauntlet also returned to an in-person format, with competitors completing an obstacle course from Mayer Family Field to the Crusader Forum. At the end, the House of Bolts won their second Chaminade Cup, and is currently the only House that is back to back champions.

    With the 2021-2022 school year having less Covid-19 restrictions, a medieval-themed 50th Annual Frosh Olympics returned as a traditional one night event. Freshman of the class of 2025 had a social prior to the games with food from the BBQ Club to bond with classmates. The staple of Frosh Olympics–tug of war–returned, as well as new games like laser tag. The House of Russi three-peated the Frosh Olympics title, ushering in a new era for the House System: the first full in person co-ed year.
  • 5th Annual Crusader Games

    5th Annual Crusader Games
    To round out the first full in-person co-ed year, the 5th Annual Crusader Games were held during the last week of April, with the Gauntlet and the closing ceremony being on the 29th. The week started with limbo in the theater and ended with Pilar winning the Gauntlet after an extremely close race after being neck and neck with Cana. At the closing ceremony, the Riordan Band performed, pumping up students in the theater. Cana emerged victorious, continuing their streak as the winningest house.

    Daily R-Time replaces weekly Mentor Groups
    Like 5 years ago, students returned to the new school year with changes. One of them being R-Time occurring Mon-Thurs, instead of weekly. The goal is to help students be more in the know of events at Riordan. Mondays are weekly announcements, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays days for conversations about issues affecting students, like self care, time management, grades, etc, and the school telecast airing on Thursdays. The focus for R-Time this year is Laudato Si: Care for our Common Home.

    51st Annual Frosh Olympics
    A telecast video speaking about the history of the Frosh Olympics was the prequel hyping up the 51st Frosh Olympics. The event festivities were split up between the gym, the annex, and the cafeteria. Games featured included limbo, musical chairs, and Hungry Hungry Crusaders. The House of Bolts won their first Frosh Olympics trophy.
  • 1st House Games- Sept '22

    1st House Games- Sept '22
    Monthly House Games were instituted at the beginning of the new school year as a way to lead up to the Crusader Games. The first one was held in September. Students played Hungry Hungry Crusaders (aka: Hungry Hungry Hippos), and table relay among other games. A highlight was when the House of Bolts lost to the House of Pillar in dodgeball in less than 30 secs. It was arguably the fastest competition in Riordan history. It set the stage for the Frosh Olympics later that night.
  • 2nd House Games- Oct '22

    2nd House Games- Oct '22
    The 2nd House Games were held in October. Competitors competed in a Halloween relay, Tug of War, and Ping Pong. Coach Willers dressed up in an alien suit as a way to provide an unusual interlude to the competitions. It served as a segue to the upcoming SHC football game as well as Halloween festivities.
