The Year 2002
In 2002 I was 3 years old when I took my first dance class. Dance has been a huge part of my life and I have my mom to thank for putting me in a ballet class at the age of 3. Also in 2002, the US Department of Homeland Security was established. This department was created in the aftermath of 9/11 and has the duty of preventing future terrorist attacks and secure the US.

The year 2006
In 2006 I was 7 years old and this was my first trip traveling out of the US. My family traveled to Belize where we did lots of hiking, exploring, and snorkeling. Also in this year, NASA's Stardust capsule landed in Utah carrying samples from comet Wild-2 which would tell NASA many things about our solar system.

The Year 2010
Oct. 11, 2010, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). My life turned upside down as I had to start calibrating carbohydrates and insulin shots. T1D definitely wasn't easy to manage, especially at the beginning of my diagnosis where I had to quickly get over my fear of needles. 2010 was also a big year for social media. Instagram was launched on Oct. 6, 2010.

The Year 2014
2014 was a tough year for my family. My grandfather passed away that October and my family was devastated. I was very close to him so saying goodbye was hard to do as a 15-year-old. That same year, many states legalized same-sex marriage including North Carolina.

The Year 2018
In 2018 I graduated high school and moved into Carrol for my freshman year at NCSU. I had never lived away from home before so moving into my college dorm was a scary thought, but my older brother was also at NC State as well, so was nice to have. The Parkland Florida Shooting happened in 2018 which shook up the US. It was a devastating shooting killing 17 people.
