This proved that segregated public schools deprived children of having equal access to education. This event had an impact on public schools and society years later, because it's been shown that African american students achieve more in racially integrated schools.

    In 1962, the supreme court ruled that it was unconstitutional for students to recite a school prayer that was written by state officials. This event had a big impact on public schools because it supported freedom of religion for students, which means they would not have to participate in any voluntary prayers. This event is important for giving students the freedom of religion which was supported by the supreme court, and the establishment clause of the first amendment.

    Tinker v. Des Moines
    During 1969, the supreme court ruled in favor of Mary Beth Tinker a junior high school student who wore a black armband to school to protest the Vietnam war. This event had an impact on students because the court ruled that the first amendment could be applied to public schools, and school officials could not censor their free speech unless it interfered with the course work. This event has shaped public schools today because it supports free speech for students in the classroom.

    The public law 94-142 was introduced in 1975, the purpose of this law was to give children with disabilities a free and appropriate education, with special services to meet their individual needs.
