  • Birth of Horace Mann

    Birth of Horace Mann
He was born on May 4th 1796, but what really matters comes in the year 1859. This is where he made public schools become more popular. He also created a state school system that worked together. If he wasn't born we might still have all private school and have no public schools. Our school systems might not have worked together with the states. I could have gone to a private school and not have learned all the things I know today.
  • Women's Rights Movement

    Women's Rights Movement
Women should be equal to men when it comes to there rights. In education for a women to be a teacher it was "manly" and out of the ordinary. Most of the time when women taught it would only be about manners. If women wanted to be teachers they couldn't get married. They were expected to stay home and be mothers. My mother and some of my other family members wouldn't be able to be teachers until the Women's Rights Movement happened.
  • Brown vs. Board of Education

    Brown vs. Board of Education
Supreme court ruled that segregation of public schools was a violation to the 14th amendment and therefore it makes it unlawful. If schools were still segregated I wouldn't have a lot of friends that I have today. If we still had segregated schools, my family probably wouldn't let me date my boyfriend today.
  • Public Law 94-142

    Public Law 94-142
Guarantees a free appropriate public education to kids with a disability. It makes sure the kids and parents rights are protected. My cousin has a severe disability and without this law her needs wouldn't be met in her school. She wouldn't be able to enjoy school and make friends.
  • IDEA

    IDEA
Ensuring services to kids with disabilities and make sure they get what they need. I have a brother and a cousin that has some type of disability. If this event didn't happen they wouldn't be able to go to a "normal" classroom. They also would get the help and things that they need. IDEA makes them feel more "normal" on a day to day basis.
