    American revolution

The American Revolution was important in developing education because it started the common core classes that we use today for education. It also taught people the importance of education making it so people can advance in the workplace to get higher-paying jobs. This was necessary for the US to advance and for the people to be more independent to support themselves. (Owings p.101)
  • Normal Schools

Making normal schools was important because this was one of the first steps into what education and public schools are today. This taught teachers how to properly teach kids and how to give them proper education. This helped the students learn in a better environment to better educate them which was important for student development and success. (Owings p.128)
  • Compulsory Education Attendance Law

The beginning of this law changed education in many ways. This law made it so the lower class was more encouraged to go to school making it an equal opportunity for everyone to get a higher education. This was important because it lowered the number of people living in poverty and helped the US grow as a whole. (Owings p.141)
  • Brown v. Board of Education

This was an important part of history and education because public schools were finally desegregated. Making schools equal was an important event because it made learning equal and more accessible to everyone. (Owings p.151)
  • No Child Left Behind Act

The Head Start and Title 1 act were an important part of education because this recognized that some kids, especially in an economically disadvantaged family, needed extra help. With this new act, those kids got the extra math and/or reading help that they needed. No child left behind was vital because it holds schools accountable and requires them to meet certain criteria so kids got a better education with the new standards of education. (Owings p.163)
