  • problem

A man was found in ahotel on the floor with one shot to the head. But the problem is we need to know where he was shooting from and what the weapon was... but how?
  • Period: to

    the shooting

  • hypothesis

I think it was long range and the murder weapon was a 22 rifle with a scope.
  • supplies

We will be using a magnifying glass, straw, spitballs, red food coloring water, a large piece of paper, a ruler, and tweezers.
  • How

We will use the straw, spitballs, paper, and water to see how much blood splats at different ranges. We will use the tweezers and magnifying glass to extract the bullet from his head and determine what kind of gun the shot came from. The ruler is to measure how much blood splatter is on the head and how much water splatter is on the paper.
  • experiment

We took out the bullet and it proved to be a 22, but here was the strange part. He used a rifle up close. It could have been a short barrel handgun though. We know he used it up close because we tested blood splatter with the spitballs, and this was definitely a short range kill.

As the saying goes, a killer always returns to the seen of the crime. Thinking the police would be working at the lab by now, he came back to the hotel. Our officers were there though, ready to catch him in the act of cleening the house of his prints. Sam Faniels was put in jail immedietly, and the family of the victim got insurance money and moved away.
