Pre-Revolution

  • Start of French and Indian War

    The French and Indian war was started because the . competition over land in Ohio River Valley, conflict over control of North American trade routes, competition for trading alliances with Natives wars in Europe increase tension (Jenkins Ear) and English & French were traditional enemies. This finially sparked conflict between the both and the war started.
  • End of French and Indian War

    At the end of the war British thought the colonists provoke war so British wanted Americans to repay war debt which was 8 million dollars. But Americans thought that the British leaders did not support their interests to settle the Ohio River Valley. Americans see a weakness in British military power because of the long and hard war against the French.In the end British increase Americans taxes in order to repay war debt.
  • Proclamation Line of 1763

    After the war the colonists began to move further west because the French no longer occupy that territory. But King George creates a line after the end of the Appalachians so colonists can not settle west of line. This made the Colonist mad they thought since that land wasn't claimed they should have the right to go on to it. This started the tension between the two.
  • The Sugar Act

    This tax was made in 1764. This tax was mostly to stop smuggling of sugar in the West Indies. There early was a Molasses Act in 1733 but it was supposed to end. But instead the British renewed it. This tax was an indirect tax meaning the colonists didn't see the money they were loseing. This Act game British soldiers writs of assistance this allowed them the go in houses and search ships or harbors.
  • Stamp Act Congress

    The Stamp Act Congress was a group of people that met in Federal Hall in New York. The Stamp Act Congress was made becuase colonists were upset that the King was taxing all printed items. There were delegates from all colonies except 4; Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia and New Hampshire. When the Congress met they were so upset that they wrote a letter together and sent it to the King. This was the first time colonies grouped together to petition the King
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was passed on March 22, 1765 by the British parliament.This affected all Americans. The Americans had to pay a tax for all the paper they used. A few of the things that were taxed were ship documents, playing cards, newspapers, licenses and a lot of other things. The money collected from this tax helped pay for the cost of fighting in the French and Indian War. This tax irritated the colonists.
  • The Declaratory Act

    The Declaratory Act was made in 1766. This was made after the Stamp Act and the Townshend Act. This Act didn't do much. All it said was that the British had power over the colonists. This made the colonists made mostly becuase they thought they made it to rub their authority in the colonist's faces. The loyalist got a little mad becuase it not seems like they are abusing their right to make laws. This act added to the colonists anger.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre happened on March in 1770. There were British troops standing in front of a Custom House. While americans were running around them makeing fun of them and teasing them. There is a lot on contraversy who started the fight. Most people would say its the British fault because they are trained with weapons. Although the British would say they were getting beat by clubs and they had to fire to protect themselves. They killed 5 people. This made severval Boston people angry.
  • Intolerable Act

    The Intolerable Act was made in 1774. This was five acts. It includes the Boston Port Act which closed the harbor. The Mass. Govt. Act that told Mass government they didn't have any power. The Justice Act which said British soldiers had to be tried in England if they did anything wrong. The Quartering Act said that all soldiers will be allowed to enter and sleep in any house. The Quebec Act which moved the bounderies of Quebec south. This sparked the colonists and made them want to rebel.
  • Lexington + Concord

    Lexington and Concord was fought in 1775. This was started because the colonists were tired of British so they started to rebel. They started a small government and established an army. A few loyalists noticed this and told the King. The King told the person to get a militia or army together and go to the American's armory. Paul Revere heard them going and sent there miltia over to stop them. This lead a small battle that started the Revalutionary War. "The shot heard round the world."
