Working Party Appointed
Hong Kong government realizes the need for a Working Party with the task to review the practise and use of Chinese medicine throughout the city. The Working Party is expected to advise measures to be taken in order to promote quality of Chinese medicine in Hong Kong. -
Prepatory Committe Created
After a report from the Working Party, Hong Kong government realizes the need of further promotion, regulation and development of Chinese medicine. For this purpose, the Prepatory Committe on Chinese Medicine is set up. It conducts a census on Chinese medicine practitioners in Hong Kong, in order to review and control the use of Chinese medicine. -
HKBU establish Chinese Medicine Clinic
School of Chinese Medicine at Hong Kong Baptist University Hong Kong Baptist University establish a Chinese medicine clinic and 1999 also becomes the first university in Hong Kong to offer a degree program in Chinese medicine. -
HKU Establish School of Chinese Medicine
School of Chinese Medicine at Hong Kong University Hong Kong University creates its School of Chinese Medicine and start running up a five year part-time degree in Chinese medicine. -
Chinese Medicine Council Created
Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong is created as the top legislative body for regulations and measures on Chinese medicine in Hong Kong, and a Chinese Medicine Bill is passed through the ctiy's Legislative Council. The actions are in line with the governments policy to make Hong Kong "an international hub for education, manufacturing and practising of Chinese medicine". -
Biotechnologic Unit
Chinese medicine unit at Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology Hong Kong government funds the establishment of a Chinese medicine unit at the Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology. The unit today access over 1,000 sqm in laboratory area alone, and have a production capacity of some 200,000 gelatin capsules and 500,000 pills per day. -
CUHK establish its Institute of Chinese Medicine
Institute of Chinese Medicine at Chinese University of Hong Kong The Institute of Chinese Medicine is set up at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, in order to "conduct scientific researches to modernize, standardize, commercialize and internationalize Chinese medicine". CUHK becomes the third and to date the last university in Hong Kong to offer degree courses in Chinese medicine. -
Registration System Established
The Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong launch a registration system to control the knowledge, praction and goods of Chinese medicine practitioners A certificate can usually be found in the reception of the clinics. If a clinic do not hold this certificate, it is likely it did not pass the council's tests. -
HKU Restructures School of Chinese Medicine
School of Chinese Medicine at Hong Kong University Hong Kong University restructures its School of Chinese Medicine. The five-year Bachelor degree is now offered on a full-time basis, and includes studies in western medicine and English language as well as a one-year clerkship on the Chinese mainland.
