  • Month One

    -conception forms a zygote
    -about halfway through the first month, the fetus is about 1.5 mm long
    -the egg and uterus come together
    -the brain, the spine and the circulatory system start to develop at this time and the heart starts to beat.
  • Month Two

    -the fetus has quadrupled its previous size
    -facial features and skeletal structures begin to form
    -the lungs attach to the throat and the heart is beating a bit faster
    -the baby can't move around that much
  • Month Three

    -the fetus has grown to be a whole inch
    -all of the fetus' organs have developed but still need to grow
    -more facial features have developed such as the mouth, nostrils and eyelids
    -in the mouth, buds for teeth have formed
    -toes and fingers have grown
  • Month Four

    • the fetus can now move around and do things like hiccup and suck its thumb -has grown to be 3 inches and weighs 1 ounce -facial features are more recognizable -all organs are growing
  • Month Five

    -the fetus quadruples in weight and can be up to 7 inches
    -facial hairs and teeth continue to develop
    -all the organs are growing and the fetus becomes very active
  • Month Six

    -fetus grows another two inches and double in weight
    -fat begins to build up under the skin
    -breathing functions start
    -fetus is still very active
    -all organs are growing
  • Month Seven

    -the fetus is as long as 10 inches and can weigh to two pounds
    -all organs are still growing
    -fetus begins to kick but also has time of rest
  • Month Eight

    -grows another four inches and can weigh up to three pounds
    -reflexes are forming and may use them while still inside the uterus
    -moves its head towards the bottom of the uterus
    -all organs are growing
  • Month Nine

    -the fetus is now around 18 inches and can weigh up to 6 pounds
    -develops antibodies from its mother's blood
    -skin become smoother but still with fat
    -gains even more weight
    -movement is restricted due to less room
    -moves towards the mother's pelvis for birth
    -all organs are growing
