  • What is meiosis?

    What is meiosis?
Meiosis is a similar process to mitosis, but with more stops and a different function. Meiosis occurs in gamete cells, and the chromosome number is reduced. Cells that undergoes meiosis divides 2 times, to make 4 cells.
  • The stages of meiosis

There are 2 stages with 5 steps each. Meiosis 1 has Prophase 1, Metaphase 1, Anaphase 1, Telophase 1, and Cytokinesis. Meiosis 1 divides the cell into 2. Meiosis 2 has Prophase 2, Metaphase 2, Anaphase 2, Telophase 2, and Cytokinesis. Meiosis 2 divides the 2 cells into the final 4 cells.
  • Meiosis’ Role

    Meiosis’ Role
Meiosis creates gametes (sperm and egg cells). During fertilization, 1 gamete from each parent combines to form a zygote. Homologous chromosomes, 1 inherited by each parent, pairs up from gene to gene. They also trade genes, which creates our traits.
  • Real life application

From the article https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/10/201023095855.htm, heat stress from tight clothing, hot tubs, and more damages the DNA in sperm. If those damaged sperm were to meet an egg, it would fail to produce an offspring. Sperm production occurs at 90-95 degrees F, and if the body temperature increases by 3.6-4 degrees F, the sperm’s DNA gets damaged as mentioned.
