The 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th regiments of Vermont were called together by President Lincoln to create the 2nd Vermont Brigade. This brigade was the result of the bad outcome of the Peninsula Campain. -

In February of 1863 the division went under the command of Brigadier General Silas Casey and the unit was reorganized as the XXII Corps. -
Captured
Edwin H. Stoughton was captured on this day, but few liked him so few mourned his loss. -
The Brigade at Gettysburg
This date was the first day of the battle of Gettysburg, and the 2nd Vermont Brigade was split into the 13th and 15th regiments to fight this battle. This was known as Pickett's Charge because after two hours of artillery battle the Vermont Brigade withdrew and Lee's army charged. History refers to this point as the High-Water time for the Confederacy, -
Mustered Out
By this time in the war all five regiments had been mustered out Brattleboro, Vermont. -
End of the Brigade
By this point the Brigade is done fighting. The total number of men who served in this Brigade total is about 4,800. The total number of deaths comes out to be around 340, and 70 of them came from just the Battle of Gettysburg. Only one General had been captured from these regiments.
