Finacial Problems
After the seven years war and American Revolution the French were in a lot of debt. Louis XVI hired Jacques Necker a finacial advisor to help with the debt. He told the king to start taxing all the estates and the king didn't want that so he fired him. This forced the three estates to meet at the estates-general to make changes. -
Estates-general
The Three estates all joined at the estates-general to discuss their complaints. The third estate always kept getting out voted by 2 to1, and they counted for about 90% of the population. They wanted it to be counted by heads. The third estate would be called the national assembly. They want to meet at the meeting hall but it was locked, they went to a close by tennis court. Here they took the tennis court oath. They swore to never seperate and to meet wherever til they establish a constitution. -
Storming the Bastille
On this day a crowd of people wanted guns that were supposebly inside the prison for fighting the king. The commander didn't want to let them in. The crowd over took the prison and killed the commander. They never found any guns in the prison. This is what started independence day in French. -

Revot/National Assembly Acts
On August 4 Feudalism is abolished, the president of the assembly later said that this is the dawn of a new revolution. In late august the Declaration of the rights of man written. In this document is says were "born and remain free and equal in rights." It also says people have natural rights. On October 5, six thousand women marched to versailles -
Threats from abroad
After the failed escape by Louis XVI,Prussia and Austria decided to get into the middle of it. They issued the Declaration of Pilnitz. In this document it they said to release the French monarchy or we will intervene. France took this seriously and prepared for war. -

Civil War
on october the new Legeslative Assembly took office.In paris working-class men and women called sans-culottes took the revolution intl more radical action. the sans-culottes wanted a goverment ruled by elected repersanatives. in 1792 the French and European moved on the battlefield. the legislative assembly declared war on Austria, Prussisa, Britian, and other states which last until 1815 -
Monarchy is Abolished
The revolutionaries stormed the royal palace and kill all the guards. The royal family left before the mod got to them, they went to the legislative assembly. Radicals eventually took control of the assembly. The convention met to abolish monarchy and establish a republic. The king was sentenced to death by a single vote. In October Marie Antoinette was excuted. -

Robespierre and Reign of Terror
Robespierre was a lawyer, that rose to the leadership of the committee of public safety. His dedication to the revolution got him the name "the incorruptible." Robespirre was the chief of architects of the Reign of Terror. During the Reign of Terror 300,000 people were arrested and 17,000 were killed. The guillotine was the machine that killed most of the people. On July 27 Robespierre was arrested and executed and the executions slowed down dramatically -

Third Stage of the Revolution
the third stage setup a five man directory and a two house legislature. the directory made peace with prussia and spain. when chaos threatened the politicians turned to Napoleon Bonaparte, a military hero. the politicians wanted to use him to advance their own goals. Napoleaon eventually became ruler of France. -
Spread of Nationalism
The Revolution gave French a national idenity. As monarchs got power loyalty shifted to the king or queen. Nationalism spread throughout France, everyone celerbrated the nation and the revolution. Nationalism is a strong feeling of pride in your country.
