Mod.ber
The company UseNet (User Network) featured a moderated newsgroup which allowed all postings to be controlled by an individual or small group. Most newsgroups were similar to a forum until about 1983 when a moderator named Brian E. Redman created "Mod.ber". Redman and a few others would post summaries of interesting threads/posts from else where on the .net. Mod.ber is one of the first to be considered an online blog. Read More Here. -

The Word "Blog"
The short form, "blog," was coined by Peter Merholz, who jokingly broke the word weblog into the phrase we blog in the sidebar of his blog Peterme.com in April or May 1999.

"Blog" Used as a Verb & Noun
Shortly after the term blog was coined Evan Williams of Prya Labs used it as a verb and a noun and came up with the word "Blogger" leading to the popularization of the word. -
