Apple Macintosh Plus
Two years after the release of the first Macintosh computer, Apple finally hit its stride with the venerable Mac Plus, which corrected several defects of the original Mac and became one of the company's most-loved (and used) products. The stylish all-in-one box featured a Motorola 68000 processor, a built-in 9-inch monochrome display, and a 3.5-inch floppy drive. Chief among its innovations was a SCSI port so you could attach an external hard drive, and 1MB of RAM, which was upgradable to 4MB. -
Canon CLC 500
Canon was one of the pioneers of electrophotographic colour. By 1989 it had developed the first Colour Laser Copier (CLC 500), which was essentially a digital colour laser printer with a scanner bolted on top. Soon after that it introduced an interface board that let you connect a computer to turn it into a true printer. EFI plugged in a PostScript Rip and the rest is history. Used in a QED programe (Art & Chips 1992) by Richard Hamiltons to revisit his previous 1956 collage. -
Iris 3047
Significance
A seminal machine in fine art inkjet printing regarded as the first technology to bridge printmaking & photography (used by Hamilton & D. Hockney). The Iris was appropriated by Nash editions due to its initial high quality image output. Later improvements and adaptions would be made towards tailoring the printer for fine art needs - image quality, useing heavy weight paper, improvement with ink permanace, image adjustment software. -
