SAND CREEK MASSACRE

Nov 29, 1864

Occued when indians raised flag in surrender. Colnel chivington ordered men to attack. Indians ran in panic , many were killed.

fetterman massacre

Dec 21, 1866

A fort commander sent troops out to follow an indian. This indian was crazy horse who had a trap planed for the soilders. when the soiders got to the trap they were all killed by the indians.

treaty of fort laramie

Jan 1, 1868

treaty was signed at fort laramie. treaty aknowledged that the black hills were part of a large sioux reservation. gen. custer moves into indian teritory with miners. miners invade indian hunting ground and battle starts against the sioux

1874 discovery

gen. custer invades indian teritory. he confirms that there is gold out there and settlers move to start prospecting . indians are not happy.

battle of little bighorn

occured when te government tried to buy land from sitting bull but sitting bull refused. the sioux joined forces with crazy horses tribe and fought against gen custers troops. gen custer underestimated force of the indians and led most of his troops to death. this was a terible mistake on his part.

GHOST DANCE

indians are becoming weakened as a culture. they turn to a prophet named wovoka. he tells them to perform the ghost dance in order to restore their former greatness.

wounded knee

Dec 29, 1890

the gost dance scared the reservation officials so they went to arest sitting bull be cause they beleived he had started a rebelion.. in the incident he was shot. after sitting bull was killed the sioux tribe fled to the creek of wounded knee. the millitary moved in to collect the indians weapons. a shot rang out and fighting began, ending with 200 dead indians and 25 dead soilders.
