The Puritan Way

Why did the puritans give up living in a religious community? It's hard to understand why a religious community would break apart while having a great leader. Although their are many obvious reasons why a puritan would decide to move on to an easier life, it is evident that the ethics emphasized when plymouth was founded were far gone at that time.
  • Mary Rowlandson

    Mary Rowlandson
Was Mary's baby a burden? Mary complains about the lack of food and spirit throughout the beginning of her captivity. She feels sorry for the baby, that remains sitting on her lap moaning all day. It seems to me that Rowlandson would've wished to not have the baby with her. It would've been better for the baby, and she wouldn't have attracted so much attention from the indians that complained about the baby all the time. When the baby died, it released him from his misery.
