21st Century Timeline

  • Expedition One

    Expedition One
Expedition One was the first long-term visit to the International Space Station. Three men stayed for 136 days aboard the ISS. This was the gateway to longer and longer research visits, paving the way for information.
  • 9/11

    9/11
Both of the Twin Towers and the Pentagon were hit by three hijacked planes, and a fourth plane landed in a field in Pennsylvania. The hijackers were linked back to al-Qaeda, starting the search for Osama Bin Laden, the group's organizer.
  • Invasion of Iraq

The U.S. launched an invasion of Iraq to destroy weapons of mass destruction. They also wanted to end the rule of Saddam Hussein. This was the result of 9/11 and the war on terrorism.
  • Youtube was Created

Youtube is my favorite app. I love watching videos, whether to learn or to entertain me. It is super useful and combines a whole load of genres together in one place.
  • Alivia was Born

    Alivia was Born
I was born! I could have had a cool Halloween birthday, but my mom wanted a specific midwife and waited until the morning of November 1 to give birth to me. (I am a little older than a year in this picture.)
  • Barack Obama Becomes President

    Barack Obama Becomes President
Barack Obama became the first African American president of the United States. I was only three years old when this happened, but I soon grew up and realized how significant this was for people of color and really for all Americans. Barack Obama is a Democrat who previously held office as a senator for Illinois.
  • I Started Playing Soccer

    I Started Playing Soccer
I loved playing soccer when I was little. I eventually stopped, but it was super fun while it lasted. I got pretty good, and at 12 I was playing in the 13 and 14-year-old age groups on the highest-level team.
  • Trayvon Martin is Murdered

The murder of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old, gave way to the Black Lives Matter Movement. Three black women determined to fight for black rights in America decided to use their talents as social organizers to pull together peaceful protests, setting off BLM.
  • The Supreme Court Rules on Gay Marriage

The Supreme Court Rules on Gay Marriage
The Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution gives same-sex couples the right to marry. As a lesbian, this ruling ensures I will have the opportunity to have a binding marriage to my wife when the day comes. It was a relief to same-sex couples wanting to get married during this time, and it also opened the doors for older couples actually to get married if they could not previously.
  • Joe Biden Becomes President

    Joe Biden Becomes President
Joe Biden became the 46th president. He is a Democrat who previously served as Barack Obama's Vice President. Although I have not paid much attention to his presidency, I am glad the 45th president was not reelected. I feel like anything would be better than that.
  • First Time in New York

I went to New York for my 16th birthday! It was super fun, and I found out I am most definitely a big-city girl. My family is from Chicago, so I knew I would love New York just as much as I loved Chicago.
  • War in Ukraine

Putin put forth a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This was due to long-standing issues between the two, starting with the annexation of Crimea in 2014.
  • I Started Dating My Girlfriend Grace

Me and my girlfriend Grace started dating! She is the best thing on Earth. We do everything we can together and it is always so fun to be around her. <3
  • Roe V Wade is Overturned

SCOTUS overturned abortion rights. This blow to women's security and right to their own bodies has still not been fully processed in my mind. I cannot say I was surprised, but I definitely was outraged. The following bans on abortion have been tough to witness as a woman who wishes any woman the right to terminate a pregnancy if she so chooses.
  • End of My First Year of College

I attended my final lecture for my first year of college classes! I saved a lot of money, and I can’t wait to save some more next year.
