The Triple Alliance
The Triple Alliance is formed between Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy which basically allowed those countries to have each others backs in case any one of them was attacked. An extra bonus for Austria-Hungary was that, because they were at odds with Italy, they could put the qualms of a fight with them to rest. -

The Triple Entente
The Triple Entente was formed between France, The British, and Russia, in case the Triple Alliance decided to launch an attack on any of them, or start an all out war. It went into effect when the Anglo-Russian Entente treaty was signed. -
Build up of Arms Naval Forces
Between 1907 and 1914 there was a massive build up of military including new weaponry and new technologies. -
Archduke Assassinated
Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated by a member of the secret society known as "The Black Hand" called Gavrilo Princip. Argueably this was the tipping point for a lot of people, and when a series of diplomatic attempts completely failed World War One was imminent. -

Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia, and Russia starts to get its troops ready for battle. -
Germany Invades Belgium
Germany invades Belgium, resulting in a global outrage that started to make other countries get seriously involved in the Great War. -
Britain & Commonwealth Declares War on Germany
Canada and Great Britain declare war on Germany, exactly one day after Germany invaded Belgium. -
Germans Sink The Lusitania
German militants sink the RMS Lusitania. Although the Lusitania was a British ship, it was the loss of 123 US citizens on board the luxury liner that brought the US directly into the war. -
Zimmerman Note Discovered
The Zimmermann note (a diplomatic suggestion from Germany to Mexico, to engage in war against the United States) was intercepted by Americans, and decoded. -
USA Enters War
The United States enters the fray, waging war against Germany (finally...). As if the US losses in the Lusitania weren't enough, the Zimmerman note, as well as pressure from the Allies finally brought about the US official entry to the war. -
Armistice
Armistice, or a ceasefire, is reached in World War One. This date commemorates the signing of an agreenment to end all fighting on the Western Front. -
