    Galveston Storm
    The galveston storm was very damaging and dangerous. The storm had winds of about 145 miles per hour. This made it a category four storm. It had a death toll of 6,000- 12,000 individuals. This was ranked first in most deadliest. It was ranked second in the most damaged hurricane with 99.4 billion.

    Spindletop
    The spindle top gusher happened when texas had an oil boom. Spindletop was located near Beaumont, Texas. Andrew Lucas was adding new equipment and the oil spit out covering the floor. This was the first major gusher in the texas oil boom. The gusher blew over 150 feet.

    The eighteenth ammendment declared the prohibition of alcholic beverages in the United States by decaring the production, transport and sale of alchol illegal.

    This gave women the right to vote. It was very exciting for women it made them feel they were just as good as men. It made voting equal between gender.

    The Sweatt v. Painter was a U.S. Supreme Court case that successfully challenged the "separate but equal" doctrine of racial segregation established by the 1896 case Plessy v. Ferguson.

    This was a case in which court declared state laws establishing The decision overturned the Plessy v. Ferguson decision of 1896 which allowed state-sponsored segregation. separate public schools for black and white students unconstitutional.

    This election was between Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy. The canidate needed to make at least 269 electoral votes which made John F. Kennedy the president. John F. Kennedy was republican while Richard Nixon was democratic. John F. Kennedy was with the northeast states while Richard with most of the northwest states. This election was very close.

    In January Henry ran for congress he won the election and November fourth he became congressman.He represented Texas's 20th congressional district from 1961 to 1999.
  • Assassination in Dallas

    Assassination in Dallas
    John F. Kennedy was assassinatied by Lee Harvey Oswald. He was murdered when he was traveling with his wife in Dealey Plaza, Dallas Texas at 12:30 P.M. He also wounded two other passengers in the limosuine which were only minor. In the limosuine the passengers included JFK himself, the first lad, the governor at the time and his wife. He died in 1963 only letting him serve three years of his first term.

The Voting Rights Act outlawed discriminatory voting practices that had been responsible for the widespread disenfranchisement of African Americans in the U.S.
  • Barbara Jordan Elected to US Congress

    In March, 1972, Senator Jordan was unanimously elected president pro tempore. In June of that year, she was honored by being named Governor for a Day. Shortly, thereafter she decided to run for Congress and was elected, in Nov. 1972, from the newly drawn Eighteenth Congressional District in Houston.

  • 9/11 terrorist attack

    Four passenger airliners were hijacked by 19 al-Qaeda terrorists so they could be flown into buildings in suicide attacks. Two of those planes, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, were crashed into the North and South towers, of the World Trade Centers. Within two hours the two towers collapsed with a lot of debris.
