World War I
The "Great War" began in 1914. It pitted the Triple Alliance which consisted of Germany, Italy, and Austria-Hungary against the Triple Entente which consisted of Britain, France, and Russia. The United States did not become a part of this war until 1917. They joined forces with the Triple Entente. The war ended shortly after in the year of 1918. -
World War II
Adolf Hitler was a rising power in Germany. By 1939 the whole world was in turmoil as the fear of another World war was upon them. Hitler formed alliances with Italy and Japan. These countries were called the Axis Powers. The Allied forces were the United States, Great Britain, France, and Russia. United States did not initially join World War II until they were attacked by Japan at Pearl Harbor. United States countered and dropped the first atomic bomb. WWII ended in 1945. -
